Hi, I’m ashleigh king.
Hi y’all! I want to tell you a little bit about my background and how Prim & Proper Pups began. I am from the southwest Georgia area, born and raised, where Yes ma’am and No ma’am are the only way to respond. Us southerners are all about having Proper manners. Growing up, my family always had a dog. I have had many best friends, one being a cat. Her name was Goldie. I loved her dearly, but I always had a special place in my heart for my dogs. Over the years we have had several dogs; Coco, Shadow, and Dixie were a few. I also had my fair share of sadness, but mostly joys with owning a dog. I know owning a dog doesn’t make me an expert. But, in the coming years and current, I’ve learned so much! Every summer, as children, my brother and I helped out one of the local plantations my granddad (PopPop) worked on. We restocked the clay pigeon machines during hosted shoots. Prior to the shoots, I always went to the kennels and visited the dogs. The older I got I began to help feed them in the afternoons and on weekends. Fast forward a little…. Once I graduated high-school, I took on my first “real” job assisting at the kennels that summer. Best job EVER, well at least until now!! I worked my way up and became Kennel Master of Wynfield Plantation the following year, 2009.
My Approach
I learned a tremendous amount from my head manager and mentor at the time, Mike Osteen, an influencer in the dog world. During my years as Kennel Master, I fed more dogs than I can count, assisted in puppy litters, and groomed our long-haired friends before hunting season fired up. These were just some of the responsibilities I had. We had our own professional dog trainers. This is where I learned the majority of my training, being a literal fly on the wall amongst all the actual flies. Thank you South Georgia! Most dog trainers in the plantation world were out of date and harsh. Mike taught all of us if we teach the dog well enough then the training should be easier. Key word is Teach. It’s hard for anything to be trained if it is not first taught, and to teach you need to know your field. Along with teaching us positive reinforcement he also taught us to read the dog for any signs of behavioral changes. This helped us judge the dog for any uncertainty in the teaching stage, and take a step backwards if needed. In total, I have 12 years of experience in the professional dog world, business, and counting.
My solution
Dream it
Now, as a mom of 2, raising kids and pets can be overwhelming. There is not a huge market for puppy schools, which got my brain turning for a solution. It seems everyone wants puppies, but nowhere for educational training outside of your standard chain pet store. This is where I bridge the gap for you! I want this to be an amazing and educational experience that teaches you, your family, and pup! I want to bless and share that knowledge with you.
Build it
My goal is to inform you with incite from a trainer, and how to properly give commands or discipline your pup without hindering your growing relationship. You need to enjoy your new puppy and not pull your hair out! This business was created to teach the proper way to raise and handle your newest best friend. Don’t be shy, send them to me or schedule a consult. I strive to bring you knowledge and provide the best puppy training around, and where both of you will be temporarily apart of my family.
